Chapter Six

Fiona watched Max’s retreating back. And backside. Damn he had one fine ass. She turned to her sister and the men and saw that they were all supressing laughter. As Max disappeared out of the door, their laughter burst out, the men laughing so hard they had tears in their eyes.

“I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong? Or is he just afraid of women?”

“No. I don’t think he’s afraid of all women.” Lori giggled. “Oh my god, Dillon, he literally ran away from my sister. I mean, he’s always been on the quiet side when I’ve been around, but he’s never run away before. Dillon? Jacob? What’s up?”

“I don’t know what to say. He’s usually the most badass Dom I know. Seriously hard-core. Always has been.” Jacob looked at his brother, who shrugged.

“I got nothing either. But it’ll be fun torturing him to find out!” Dillon actually rubbed his hands together and laughed like a movie villain. “I’m going to enjoy this!”

“Um, guys…do you mind if I do the torturing, fellas? I mean, I know he’s your friend, but I’m the one he fled from and all.” She looked at the brothers and tried to paste a pleading look on her face. “Please, pretty please!”

“Promise to take the job to decorate the club and he’s all yours,” Dillon countered.

“I thought today was an interview?”

“Technically it is. But only technically. Everyone loves your work. The only one who hasn’t seen it is Max and I know he’ll love it, too. The only reason for the interview is that Luke, the CEO, wants to do things by the book.”

“What if he doesn’t? I mean, what if Max doesn’t want me to do the job?”

Dillon shrugged and laughed. “Four against one, Fiona. Don’t worry about Max.”

She turned to Jacob but something or someone at the back of the coffee shop had caught his attention. There was a crowd now, at the counter, but she caught a glimpse of fiery red hair and heard the sound of a woman laughing, followed by a masculine chuckle.

“Jacob? Do you agree?”

“Um, yes. Job. You’ll be great. Torturing Max? Sure. It’ll be fun to watch. Well, I gotta go. Coffee time. See you at dinner later.”

And then he was gone, working his way through the crowd and making his way toward the counter, followed by a laughing Dillon.

“Wow. He does love his coffee,” Fiona observed.

“Not really,” replied Lori.

“But—”

“You’ll find out later. In the meantime, why don’t we grab a bite here and we’ll head on upstairs and join the men later.”
